Horsham, West Sussex-based Mark Bridger has over 30 years of experience in sales and leadership roles across events, media and publishing portfolios, having followed his father into the business in 1990.
Since then, he has excelled in roles in a variety of industries including metal forming and fabrication; water and wastewater; labelling and converting; building and construction; material handling; cranes and heavy lifting. He has researched, launched and directed a number of international magazines, exhibitions and conferences in Europe, the Far East, the Middle East and North America.
For three years, Mark was based in the USA as publisher and director of business development for a media portfolio covering lifting equipment. Launching various regional events and conferences was part of his remit.
DMG World Media, Mack Brooks Group, Wilmington Media, and Maximum Capacity Media are a few of the companies to benefit from his wealth of experience.
London-based Richard Howes had worked in media for 14 years when Bridger Howes Limited was founded in 2013.
Concluding full-time education with the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ), Richard started his career in local newspapers before joining the B2B publishing industry five years later.
There, he edited a number of international and North American trade journals in the construction and lifting sectors; including Cranes Today, HOIST, Industrial Lift and Hoist, Overhead Crane and Hoist (OCH) and Lift and Hoist International.
Editorial leadership roles included the oversight and moderation of conference content at events in Europe, the Far East, the Middle East and North America.
Extensively travelled, Richard has experience working in many international markets and has gained business relationships and contacts all over the world.
Mark Bridger, company director, released a video on 8 July 2021 as Bridger Howes (BH) joined other industry stakeholders to promote Global Lifting Awareness Day (GLAD), which was launched in 2020.
BH, along with the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA) and Lift & Hoist International (LHI) magazine, encouraged people to share their stories about how they found themselves in the lifting sector—and Mark led by example.
In his two-minute, 42-second video, he says that the lifting industry isn’t only a place for engineers, as his story proves.
He adds, “If it wasn’t for cranes and hoists, my business partner, Richard Howes, and I wouldn’t have formed the company. We wouldn’t even have met.”
GLAD, or #GLAD2021 as it was publicised on social media, principally serves to attract the next generation of recruits into an incredible sector. It also reminds end users of how important it is to use high quality suppliers, while highlighting to policymakers that we need them to recognise and support the role that the lifting industry plays across numerous key industries and in improving health and safety at work.
As Mark says, “The lifting industry has served both directors well. We have been fortunate to travel all over the world and have clients and friends in many geographical regions.”
